BEAT the ODDS

The Guide Right Program can be traced back to the St. Louis (MO) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and to Leon W. Steward, who is rightfully dubbed the “Father of the Guide Right Movement.” According to the story of Kappa Alpha Psi, soon after the St. Louis Alumni Chapter’s beginning in 1921, Leon W. Steward and J. Jerome Peters were assigned to study the needs of active chapters for guidance and funds, and to devise a “meaningful and practical approach to the problem.”

Steward proposed a program of guidance to be designated as Guide Right with the purpose of assisting high school seniors. Soon thereafter Guide Right was adopted as Kappa Alpha Psi’s national service program. From its inception, the focus of Guide Right was to provide scholarships to needy and talented students and to inform young people about professions and career options.

The Dulles-Leesburg Alumni Chapter invests in our Guide Right and Kappa League (KL) programs to encourage academic, professional, and social development among young men. We join chapters across the nation in the belief that our continued investment in young people is a laudatory gesture, given the social climate of the contemporary scene.

The Social Action Program The Dulles-Leesburg (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. is dedicated to serving the needs of our community. We pride ourselves on engaging in meaningful projects that benefit from our direct involvement and have a positive impact on the community. We willingly sacrifice our time and energy to support the welfare of the community.

Since 2009, the Dulles-Leesburg (VA) Alumni Chapter, in collaboration with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Psi Rho Omega chapter of Loudoun County, has served the underprivileged in Loudoun County through our Family Free Shopping Spree. This one day event provides backpacks with school supplies, clothing, shoes, coats, new hats, scarves and gloves, health and beauty aids, and health screenings free of charge to needy families and individuals.

We are primary sponsors and provide direct support for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King march and celebration in Leesburg, VA. The Chapter has adopted 3 miles of roadway in our community and provide clean-up services twice a year.

As needed we provide our resources to various social action projects throughout the year ranging from book drives for elementary schools to donating sporting equipment to children’s sports programs.
